Mildred had just celebrated her 98th birthday on January 6, 2012. In 1953, Mildred and husband John Marcum founded a pair of motorsports companies in their home of Toledo, Ohio: the Midwest Association for Race Cars (MARC), a sanctioning body for organizing and administrating races and licensing and insuring competitors which would evolve into the present-day Automobile Racing Club of America (ARCA); and Marcum Promotions, formed to operate the grandstand side of the racing business. Mildred worked in the ARCA home office right up until her birthday on Friday. Mildred is survived by her daughter Suzie Drager, grandsons John, Ron and Jim, and a host of great grandchildren. *George to run limited truck schedule for RCR: Richard Childress Racing driver Tim George Jr. will run 12 NASCAR Camping World Truck Series races in 2012 for the 14-time championship-winning organization, driving the #2 Chevrolet Silverado with sponsorship from the Potomac Family Dining Group. George, a New York, N.Y. native, is fresh off his best ARCA Racing Series run, finishing the 2011 season seventh in the final championship point standings on the strength of his first-career win at Pocono Raceway in June, eight top-five and 10 top-10 finishes. The 30-year-old driver made his NASCAR Camping World Truck Series debut in November 2009, one year after claiming victory at New Jersey Motorsports Park in the Grand-Am Rolex Sports Car Series. He began his racing career in 2005, driving in the Skip Barber Racing School Southern Series and finished second in his class the following year on the heels of five victories. Potomac Family Dining Group is the exclusive franchisee for the Applebee's Neighborhood Grill & Bar restaurants in the Washington, D.C. and surrounding area. Bruce Cook, who has nearly twenty-five years of motorsports experience, will serve as crew chief for RCR's #2 Chevrolet Silverado team. His most recent stint came at Kevin Harvick Inc. where he captured three wins during the 2010 Nationwide Series season with Kevin Harvick and seven in the Camping World Truck Series with six different drivers en route to the 2011 owner's championship title. George's race schedule and further additions to RCR's competition department will be forthcoming.(Richard Childress Racing PR)(12-7-2011) *Gresham to JDM for 2012; ROTY candidate: Joe Denette Motorsports is pleased to announce that Max Gresham, the 2011 NASCAR K&N Pro Series East (NKNPSE) champion, will join the team's NASCAR Camping World Truck Series line-up for 2012. Gresham, an 18-year-old Griffin, GA native, captured the 2011 NKNPSE title on the strength of two wins, four poles, nine top-five and 11 top-10 finishes. He was the only driver to complete all 1,705 laps contested in NKNPSE competition last season. The 2012 season will mark the rookie driver's first full-time stint in the NCWTS; Gresham had three starts in the series at Las Vegas Motor Speedway, Martinsville Speedway and Homestead-Miami Speedway in 2011. He was 60. Moyer, born on April 10, 1951 in Fort Wayne, Ind., earned the ARCA national title in his rookie season with one victory at Dayton Speedway on May 17, 1981 in only his second series start. Moyer's lone ARCA victory came the day after ARCA founder John Marcum died. Moyer's ARCA career was brief but impressive, making just 14 starts over the 1981 and 1982 seasons. Despite competing in a partial season in 1982, Moyer still finished 15th in points. In addition to the win at Dayton, Moyer also finished second at Corbin Speedway in 1981, second at Baer Field Raceway in 1982, third at Flat Rock Speedway in 1981, and third at the Nashville Fairgrounds in 1982. Other top-10 finishes include a ninth-place result at Talladega Superspeedway in 1981 and a pair of ninth-place results at Flat Rock Speedway, also in 1981. Moyer also raced in the Firecracker 400 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series race at Daytona Int'l Speedway in 1988, earning a 32nd place finish. His racing career spanned four decades, and despite a 10-year hiatus along the way, he won hundreds of late model races across the Midwest and Florida. Fittingly, Moyer won the first race he entered in a Hobby Stock in 1972 at Baer Field and won the very last race he competed in at Lake City, Fla. in a Pro Truck Series event in 2002. Moyer also finished second in Pro Truck Series points on the strength of eight wins in 2001. In addition to his racing pursuits, Moyer owned and operated several trucking companies over the years, including Moyer Trucking, Kreider Transport and Cool Ride Express. Recently, Moyer commented on his career. "First time I went to Daytona, going down the back stretch, I was going 'Man, oh man, I don't know what I'm doing out here!'" Moyer said with a laugh. "Quite a year, quite a year," said Moyer of his 1981 ARCA championship season. "We did it for years and years and years. It was a Saturday night thing. "If I went right now, I'm happy. I did everything I wanted to do." He is survived by his wife, Dawn; sons, Ronald Greene, Allen Moyer, and Cory Moyer; daughter, Deby Wagers (Johnnie); brothers, Arnie Fugate (Jennifer) and Donald Moyer (Jenny); sister, Karna Heck (Joe); and two grandchildren. The family will receive friends 6-8 p.m. on Friday, August 5, 2011 at Stowers Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to LifePath Hospice. Arrangements under the direction of Stowers Funeral Home, Brandon, Fla. *Wilson Entering with Win-Tron Ryan Wilson will make his first ARCA Racing Series presented by Menards start of 2011 in next week's Ansell Protective Gloves 200 at Lucas Oil Raceway at Indianapolis, driving the No. 32 Champion Brands Toyota for Win-Tron Racing. |
